Trapani is located on the Western coast of Sicily. It is a fishing and ferry port rich in History and famous for its sea food and typical cuisine.
Trapani was a Phoenician port with commercial connections with Africa, Naples and the western Mediterranean. This town use to be important in the middle Ages.
Amongst other attractions, the largely pedestrian old town features the Palazzi and some old building. The Torre del Ligny was a tower part of the Spanish defences of the 17th century. Today it hosts a prehistoric museum. The Torre della Colombaia or Castello del Mare is an offshore fortress.
Trapani features several interesting churches. The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo dates from the 14th century and had a Baroque makeover. Chiesa del Purgatorio hosts sculptures that are carried through Trapani during the Easter procession.
